Recipe #007
What you need:
- Challah (store bought or make mine!) sliced thick
- 6 eggs
- 3/4c whole milk
- 3/4c heavy cream
- 2tbsp honey
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- unsalted butter
What you do:
- Combine eggs, milk, cream, honey, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt in a large flat casserole-style dish.
- Dip challah in mixture, letting it sit to soak for a minute or so. Be sure to soak both sides but not enough for the bread to fall apart.
- Transfer slices to a wire rack to allow excess mixture to drip off.
- Heat 1tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once melted, add bread slices. Don’t crowd the pan. There’s no harm in working in batches. Fry bread for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and getting crispy. Add more butter to the pan as needed.
- Serve with warm maple syrup and add optional butter and powdered sugar. Enjoy!
