Challah French Toast

Recipe #007

What you need:

  • Challah (store bought or make mine!) sliced thick
  • 6 eggs
  • 3/4c whole milk
  • 3/4c heavy cream
  • 2tbsp honey
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • unsalted butter

What you do:

  1. Combine eggs, milk, cream, honey, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt in a large flat casserole-style dish.
  2. Dip challah in mixture, letting it sit to soak for a minute or so. Be sure to soak both sides but not enough for the bread to fall apart.
  3. Transfer slices to a wire rack to allow excess mixture to drip off.
  4. Heat 1tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once melted, add bread slices. Don’t crowd the pan. There’s no harm in working in batches. Fry bread for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and getting crispy. Add more butter to the pan as needed.
  5. Serve with warm maple syrup and add optional butter and powdered sugar. Enjoy!
